TRAVEL NOTES: FETHIYE, TURKEY

Sunday, 16 June 2013

Stay: Hotel Perdue, Near Oludeniz, Dalaman Coast, Turkey.  www.perduehotel.com

Why: Hotel Perdue translates as The Lost Hotel and is so remote that not even the locals can help you find it.  Hidden in a tiny cove along the stunningly rugged coastline, Hotel Perdue encourages you to forget the outside world and get lost in the staggering beauty and comfort that it has to offer. The hotel is only accessible by Land Rover or boat so getting there and away is not an easy task (the hotel does offer a lift up the hill in the Land Rover 24 hrs a day but the journey isn't for the faint hearted) but if you are like me, then you simply won't want to move.

Highlights: The hotel is designed around a 'rustic eco-chic' ethos and the beautiful semi-permanent tent structures take glamping to a new level.  Melting into its surroundings, the hotel uses the rocks leading to the water's edge to create various levels for swimming, sun bathing and eating with seemingly endless little private places to retreat to.  The atmosphere is very laid back and the small team of staff are helpful and friendly and whilst being attentive, they have got the balance right and you are pretty much left to enjoy your day in the sun in peace.

Top tip: As mentioned, getting in and out is quite an effort.  Day trips on their gullet or Land Rover safaris are on offer but you will probably find that once you get there, you will pretty much stay put.  This means that your options for eating are limited to the hotel restaurant.  With no menu in English, the staff will talk you through what is on offer (which was always delicious) and we found that they were very accommodating with any special requests.

Pack: I needed relaxed easy and light clothes for the rare occasion that I moved from my sun bed.  Keep it cool and comfortable for exploring this rocky coastline.
